Disclaimers
The short version: this website informs, it does not advise. Please read these points carefully before acting on anything you read here.
Summary
European Expat Savings provides general information about fixed-term deposit products for comparison purposes only. We do not provide personalised financial, investment or tax advice. By using this website or submitting your details, you acknowledge that any information provided is non-binding and subject to the applicable Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.
Our role
We are not a bank and do not accept deposits. Any deposit is held by, and contracted directly with, a licensed deposit-taking institution. We do not handle client money. Where we may receive a commission or introduction fee from a bank, this will be disclosed to you before you proceed, and it does not change the rate you are offered.
Not financial advice
Nothing on this website constitutes financial, investment, tax or legal advice, nor a personal recommendation within the meaning of applicable financial services regulation. Content is general and does not take account of your objectives, financial situation or needs. Always consider whether a product is right for you and, where appropriate, seek independent advice.
Illustrative figures
All rates, returns and figures shown on this website, including the headline rate card, are illustrative examples for information only. They are not quotations, offers or guarantees, they may be out of date by the time you read them, and the rate available to you will depend on your amount, chosen term, currency and personal circumstances. Figures are confirmed in writing before any account is opened.
What a fixed term deposit is and is not
A fixed term deposit is a cash deposit held for an agreed period at an agreed rate. It is not an investment product and does not involve market risk in the way that shares or funds do. However:
- Early withdrawal may not be possible, or may reduce the interest you earn.
- Interest may be subject to withholding tax or income tax in your country of residence, depending on your circumstances.
- Inflation may reduce the real value of your returns over time.
Deposit protection
Eligible deposits are protected up to €100,000 per depositor, per institution, under the applicable European deposit guarantee scheme. This limit applies to the combined balance of all your deposits with the same institution, not per account. Joint accounts may be treated differently. Protection applies if the institution fails; it is not a return guarantee.
Currency and cross-border matters
If you hold or receive funds in a currency other than your home currency, exchange rate movements may affect the value you receive when converting. Cross-border transfers may involve fees charged by intermediary banks, which are outside our control. Tax treatment of interest for expats varies by country and personal situation; we recommend confirming your position with a tax adviser.
